About MUNSCR
What is MUNSCR?
Model United Nations for Successful Corean Reunification (MUNSCR) is a Model United Nations that PSCORE is organizing internationally to raise awareness of the significance of Korean reunification and the problems surrounding the human rights of North Korean citizens. As to put the main objective of the organization - which is to ensure the successful, secure, and sustainable reunification of the Korean Peninsula through inter-lateral cooperation and well-structured policies - into action, PSCORE intends to invite youngsters from both Korean and international backgrounds to the matter through a familiar concept such as the Model United Nations. Ultimately, MUNSCR will hold two main themes, which are 1) Support the peace negotiations for the reunification of the Korean peninsula, and 2) Call for human rights improvement in North Korea.
This year, we’re holding our first-ever MUNSCR 2021 from April 2nd to 4th in a virtual setting. We’re happy to invite undergraduate and graduate students who reside all over the world to join us as chairs. The conference will set the General Assembly of the United Nations as a model and open 5 committees in total. The Disarmament and International Security (DIS) Committee will include 2 sub-committees that debate the security of North Korean defectors and nuclear disarmament; the Social, Humanitarian, and Cultural (SHC) Committee will include 2 sub-committees that debate the human rights violations and surveillance in North Korea; finally, the special committee will serve the discussion of Korean reunification and international cooperation.
The Chairs will be responsible for ensuring that the debate within a committee is orderly. Chairs will be primarily responsible for making sure each committee follows the Rules of Procedure, as well as keeping the committee on the topic. Assuming that most of the participants won’t be familiar with the MUN in a virtual setting, 2 chairs will be assigned to each committee and will be expected to cooperate with one another throughout the preparation period and the actual conference. In the end, the chairs will be granted a certificate of participation and an opportunity to earn the Best Chair award.
