About MUNSCR

What is MUNSCR?

Model United Nations for Successful Corean Reunification (MUNSCR) is a Model United Nations that PSCORE is organizing internationally to raise awareness of the significance of Korean reunification and the problems surrounding the human rights of North Korean citizens. As to put the main objective of the organization - which is to ensure the successful, secure, and sustainable reunification of the Korean Peninsula through inter-lateral cooperation and well-structured policies - into action, PSCORE intends to invite youngsters from both Korean and international backgrounds to the matter through a familiar concept such as the Model United Nations. Ultimately, MUNSCR will hold two main themes, which are 1) Support the peace negotiations for the reunification of the Korean peninsula, and 2) Call for human rights improvement in North Korea.

This year, we’re holding our first-ever MUNSCR 2021 from April 2nd to 4th in a virtual setting. We’re happy to invite undergraduate and graduate students who reside all over the world to join us as chairs. The conference will set the General Assembly of the United Nations as a model and open 5 committees in total. The Disarmament and International Security (DIS) Committee will include 2 sub-committees that debate the security of North Korean defectors and nuclear disarmament; the Social, Humanitarian, and Cultural (SHC) Committee will include 2 sub-committees that debate the human rights violations and surveillance in North Korea; finally, the special committee will serve the discussion of Korean reunification and international cooperation.

The Chairs will be responsible for ensuring that the debate within a committee is orderly. Chairs will be primarily responsible for making sure each committee follows the Rules of Procedure, as well as keeping the committee on the topic. Assuming that most of the participants won’t be familiar with the MUN in a virtual setting, 2 chairs will be assigned to each committee and will be expected to cooperate with one another throughout the preparation period and the actual conference. In the end, the chairs will be granted a certificate of participation and an opportunity to earn the Best Chair award.

✨MUN Chairs Application is Now Open✨
Greetings from MUNSCR!I'm Tohi, the Secretary-General of MUNSCR, and we are currently recruiting chairs from all over the world to lead our virtual conference on April 2nd (Friday) ~4th (Sunday), 2021!
☀️WHAT IS MUNSCR?☀️MUNSCR stands for Model United Nations for Successful Corean* Reunification and is organized by human rights advocacy group People for Successful COrean* REunification (PSCORE)** based in Seoul, South Korea. MUNSCR ultimately targets peace negotiations of Korean reunification and improvement in North Korean human rights as the result of discussion!✊(*Corea is the original spelling for 'Korea' before its North-South separation)(**Check out www.pscore.org for more information)
☀️WHAT DO CHAIRS DO?☀️Chairs will be responsible for ensuring that the debate within a committee (conference room) is orderly. Chairs will be primarily responsible for keeping the committee on the topic beyond the screen and actively engaging with the delegates online.
☀️HOW MANY COMMITTEES ARE THERE?☀️There will be a total of 5 committees* with different agendas that are already settled. Each committee will have 2 chairs and they will begin by researching on the assigned topic instead of coming up with one, unlike the normal MUN. The remaining process and duties will be the same as a traditional role.(*Check out www.munscr.com for more information)
☀️WHAT DO I GET FROM THIS EXPERIENCE?☀️⭐The chairs will be granted a certificate of participation and an opportunity to earn the Best Chair Award.⭐You can create a large network with people from all over the world. MUNSCR is set on a time frame that makes participation possible from various time zones.* At the end of 3 days of debating, you'll be able to find a special bond among the participants from diverse backgrounds!(*Check out the recruitment poster for the conference timeline at http://bit.ly/2M6WXZ0 )⭐Discussing matters encircling North Korea is a very rare opportunity to be engaged upon, which makes your participation important. The reality of North Korea is barely broadcasted on the media; it is often a controversial topic to be brought up in the public. But MUNSCR is a place where you get to let your opinions unapologetically and discuss the future of the Korean peninsula.
☀️WHAT IF I DON'T HAVE PREVIOUS CHAIR EXPERIENCE?☀️ If you're new to the chair position, don't worry. Selected chairs will be given a chair handbook and carefully guided by executive members of MUNSCR.
If you have further questions, please contact munscr@pscore.orgOtherwise, go apply for the chair position now at http://bit.ly/3pfw1V5!
